Sketch Interlude

I still have coloring to do on some of the sketches I have recently uploaded. These two pages are characters and background sketches for one of the stories I have written and have not found time to illustrate yet. It would be so nice if I actually had the time to spend on all the projects I start. It would be nice if I could get paid for my artwork or stories to be able to spend the time needed to make this something. It is frustrating sometimes to look and see how long some projects sit, just because of the other attributes of life that seem to take the front seat.
Well the characters are Ray & Ray. The second sketch is working on the movement in the buildings of scubtown.

Gush - Wrong Place Wrong Time

This is the next couple of ideas or panels for the little play strip, Wrong Place Wrong Time. So the ranting goth chick has now decided to unleash her angers and frustration on a unsuspecting Gush. Peter of course warns Gush, but his words always fall on deaf ears. Too caught up in his intoxicating milkshake he takes her anger head on, well she really shoots him in the back, using her magic to transform Gush into all sorts of unsavory things, and situations. Color pages will be uploaded as they are completed.

Gush Wrong Place Wrong Time pg 2 & 3

I decided to continue the silly little Gush strip Wrong Place Wrong Time. This is the next two page of pencils. I finally made the movement to the right paper on page 3. Before they were just done on a heavy card stock sketchbook i had made. These will be done in watercolor also, I will upload those as they are finished.

Wrong Place Wrong Time

Sometimes Gush really doesn't to anything but happen to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. We find Gush finding simple pleasure in a milkshake. But little to his knowledge one of the goth queens is having a flowing rant behind him. Deep in the heat of her gripe she finds no target... but wait Gush is perfect target for any situation. Well he soon becomes target for her aggressions.

This was more of an excuse to bust out the watercolors and play around, while practicing on Gush.

Gush Character Sketches

Gush at one point thinks it would be a good money venture to sell drugs. So sweet misguided Gush makes a few small sales, to some nobodies and he starts to get an ego. These are the character sketches of Gush thinking he is rockin the streets and then getting rocked on the streets. The story line is not finished, but hopefully soon. Making time to draw is hard, time to write is even more slim.

Tax Time!

Well this is a short little gush comic i had done a while back about the fun of tax time. we all love taxes (needed hate) and this is just a short on Gush and taxes. With my brand of humor and Gush I like to go overboard, push it to the extreme. The first panel is colored in photoshop with backgrounds created in painter. The other panels have backgrounds but flats on the characters. But I am showing the rest in black and white. So this is more of a tease than a full strip. When I say full strip I wanted to have full rendering on all panels and all characters. As this is all hobby and nothing pays, this is any free time i have for the creation of my own ideas. So hopefully I will some day have the rest of the pages colored.

Gush - old school - from the start

Gush getting played socially is nothing out of the ordinary.

This is a concept sketch for writing the comic for when Gush decides he is going to sell drugs to make money. And infringes on Gub's territory, this is their first meeting. Does not go well, not really any of their meetings go well.

This is the next two pages of the first Gush story. These will be in black and white as the color will take longer than I want to wait for uploading. I hope some day to have them colored, but for now it is not important enough to take place over inking and writing other stories.

gush - staring problem

We find in public that when a person lays their gaze on you too long we feel our personal space has been invaded. We find Gush in this particular situation, where his eyes have set their gaze upon someone for far too long, and our pal Gush is about to pay the price for invading someones space for far too long.

Gush loves to dance, too bad none of the clubs in town will allow him admittance. And there are a lot of clubs in town. All kinds of clubs, good clubs, bad clubs and naughty clubs. There are clubs to get freakie in, and clubs you can get a freak in. But Gush is the wrong kind of freak.

Gush - Girl With a Beard

Gush lives by his impulses, and his first thoughts usually escape his lips pretty quickly. Though he does not live within the inner city he spends the majority of his time there. The people that live there try their hardest to avoid him and any situation involving him. He is persistent on any situation he is given a no on. Persistent to the point of getting beat up or worse.

Gush page 1

This is where I started with Gush. The comics I was doing on my own and later had some of them published in a LA weekly concert event guide called Mailing List. After that fell through I kept drawing the stories on my own, most of which has not been published. This is the first page of I think about 8 or 9 pages. The first 4 are colored, after this they will probably be black and white, just because of the amount of detail in the illustrations and lack of time to work on it.

intro to scubtown and gush

Gush is a comic I started writing back in 1993 when I was going to a lot of LA raves. I was friends with John Kelly, who is still spinning to this day, and went to a lot of the scenes that he spun at (Moontribe). So a lot of the characters I draw in and around this comic evolved from the colorful people that call the rave scene home. Plus with the huge amount of drugs that are consumed at the parties, my characters can not at all be normal.

As I grew up I found myself left out of a lot of group activities, and so called friend circles(excluding a few). This obviously has had its affects on who I am as a person and how I see myself. I feel all of these personal fears of who I am in the world take their form in Gush. He is not a liked guy, by just about everyone. He is always a social outcast, the butt of any joke and generally played. No one gets fucked over as bad or as much as Gush. When you spend that much time in isolation you find you need some sort of contact, a friend. Peter is Gush's manifestation of any sort of reason or real thought process. He is the part of Gush's brain he ignores, which gets him into all of his trouble. If only he listened to his little voice. Gush being the insecure character he is, manifests peters form in the shape of a little cactus. Remember, lots of drugs.

Gush is the main of many different characters in Scubtown. The cities are very twisted and alive, everything is an animate object. He lives more on the outskirts of the action of the city, and the beatings. Gush gets beat a lot, but usually he did something to warrant it. He is not the brightest of characters. His emotions and lusts always get the best of his situations.

Did I mention that Gush was a burlap bag full of straw, that has been sewn together? He is. Girls don't find burlap bags too sexy, so Gush spends a lot of time with himself. Guys don't like him too much either, actually they hate him.
